This has got to be one of the best purchases I have ever made!! The specifications for the stand state a maximum height of 8.5′. I have a 9′ tree but I figured what possible difference can 6″ make. It handles it perfectly!! The stand rotates at 1 rpm which I think is the perfect speed. What I like is being able to stand on the ladder and put on the garland without having to move myself and the ladder. I just let the branches come to me. The same goes for the ornaments. The tree rotates slowly enough so you have time to hang them carefully. My tree is pre-lit so I can’t say how well putting lights on would work with this procedure but I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

The thing I like best is that it adds an entirely new dimension to the tree. You have ornaments all around the tree instead of only on the side that is facing into the room. The lights appear to twinkle as the tree rotates (they won’t with LED style lights) and you see all of the tree from one location. I can’t take my eyes off of it. I never seen such a beautiful tree. I had the same tree last year and I thought it was great but the rotating stand makes it 10 times better!!

It’s perfectly quiet. I can’t hear the motor at all! The stand has an escapement device that releases with a click if the tree were to hang up on something. This is a very nice feature and works quite well too. The stand has 2 outlets that rotate with the tree of course. They must use a slip ring or brush type configuration to keep the power to the outlets as the tree rotates. You may think that the lights might flicker occasionally as the stand rotates but they stay on steadily just as if the tree was plugged directly into the wall. There is a switch box that houses 2 switches and a circuit breaker. The 2 switches enable you to have the tree lit without rotating, rotating without lights or completely off. They didn’t chince on the cord length either!

In summary this stand seems to made of quality materials and is very well engineered. The best part is that it is made in the USA!!!!!!! How often do you see that anymore?

PS>> today is January 15 and my tree is still up!!

We have had our current rotating base for approximately 8 years and it is stilling in perfect working condition. I am purchasing another for backup in case this one ver does go out. We use it frequently during the holiday season so we can see all of our ornaments which we have only oe of each kind on the tree. I look forward to it every year. It also makes decorating a breeze as you can rotate the tre to you instead of walking aroound it. Just turn it to the area you are decorating and turn it off; turn on again for the next section and first thing you know the tree is complete and awesome.

Finally another sturdy rotating Christmas tree stand!

I grew up with a rotating Christmas tree; you know the old aluminum “Star Bell” stand. So I definitely wanted to continue the tradition. The HMS stand is not the first rotating stand that I have purchased since becoming an adult. The others were very unstable and difficult to work with and often the tree would fall over. You see we have a heavy 7-1/2′ tree with lots of lights and lots of ornaments – we needed this stand!

I have had my stand for one week now and I love it! It is lightweight yet sturdy. The base that the tree pole goes into is snug which is good and bad. When you initially insert the pole into the ring you might think that the pole is too large but as long as the pole is no larger than 1-1/2″ it will fit. Originally my hubby thought the pole was too awkwardly shaped but use a little cooking spray (HMS’ recommendation) or a little lubricant like silicone spray lube (WD-40) and then gently force the ring up to the appropriate location.

I had called HMS when my hubby was afraid that the pole was too large. They returned my call the next morning when they re-opened. The representative was polite and cheerful. She was quite understanding of our concerns and even though we had already figured out the problem she reassured me that what we had done did not ruin the stand and using the spray is what they recommend.

If you want to bring back your childhood or start a new tradition and adore the child-like wonder of Christmas buy this stand!
